Environment ✧ vineyard valley, hills with good hikes close; 1h coast

Notes/Area ✧ would be able to function as a mini-hub as there's lots of expats, and probably a few local professionals amongst the many villages
climate is barely passable off peak yet lovely in summer and decent otherwise, but has frequent winds most of the year (the Cers from the west)
✦ bus every 2h into town, but last back 6pm; town is decent especially in season, moderately lively, and attractivew with its remarkable fort hanging over it, plus canal and riverfront
despite being essentially a dead village with no square/centre, there's a very good resto, and on the road a nice cocktail-bar/resto, plus the bakery, minimart and good pizziera, so not entirely necessary to leave however the town offers far nicer surroundings for popping out
✦ as an alternative the bigger canalside village of Trebes also has cafes and restos and is bikable in 30 along a pleasant bit of canal too
both the town and the ruins at Lastours are 30mins bike
✦ some easy strolls from the door partly along vineyard lanes or tracks to the hills in 30mins; biking and a swimming spot plus good trails are under 15mins, and canal 20mins

✦ good day trips to mountains stopping off at Limoux on way
✦ Castres also a daytrip stopping in Mazamet or the hills, same for Revel
✦ Toulouse is 45mins by train thus with a dropoff is good for a daytrip, Narbonne 30mins
